ETN (Electroneum) in RAINBOW WALLET. You can now send your ETN to Rainbow Wallet. It’s Open Source and Ledger/Trezor compatible.

I was able to successfully connect my Edge Browser Rainbow Wallet extension to Electroneum Network and send 27 ETN from my Metamask Wallet to the Rainbow Wallet. I was subsequently also able to withdraw 14 of the 27 ETN and send it back to my Metamask Wallet. So both sending and receiving of ETN works in the Rainbow Wallet.

Here are the steps:
1. Download and Install Rainbow Wallet extension in your browser from the Rainbow website (https://rainbow.me/). Although I used a browser extension, a mobile app might work also (I did not test). I used Edge browser which allows chrome extensions. But other browsers might also work. Backup your Rainbow Wallet seed phrase.

2. Go to Chainlist website and search for Electroneum: https://chainlist.org/ or https://chainlist.wtf

3. Connect Rainbow Wallet browser extension to Chainlist site (I used Chainlist.org) and add custom (ETN) network. You can also manually add ETN without connecting, by going to 3 dots > Settings > Networks > Add Custom Network, and filling in ETN details.

4. Open wallet extension. Unlike other wallets, the Network doesn’t automatically switch from Ethereum to Electroneum. So you need to manually do this. Click the circle in top left corner of main screen, then click Switch Network, then scroll down and select Electroneum Mainnet.

5. To receive ETN, click “Copy” on main screen. This is similar to Metamask Wallet which uses same address to receive different cryptos.

6. To send ETN, Click on the ETN asset/token on main screen. Click Send and input the amount and wallet address.

As of 7/28/24 there are 6 wallets that I have tested and work with ETN for both sending and receiving – Metamask Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, Rabby Wallet, Rainbow Wallet, BlockWallet, and Coin98 Wallet.

We also have 1 wallet that is able to receive ETN but is NOT able to withdraw – Trust Wallet. The main issue appears to be related to the extremely low network fees that Trust Wallet uses to send ETN. The issue has been brought up to Trust Wallet, but their response is they are unable to fix the transaction fee at this time.

And lastly, we have Atomic Wallet, that is able to send and receive ETN, but they were hacked in mid-2023, so best not to use them. Check out my post regarding Atomic Wallet 2023 Hack here: https://propheticmoney.com/atomic-wallet-breach-cover-up-35m-stolen-failed-security-audit/

Here is some information about the wallet. I’m not sure why they called it rainbow, but I do not believe it has anything to do with the LGBTQ movement. There were some issues I noticed during my testing with ETN not properly working in the wallet, but the wallet support folks were very quick to respond to emails and quickly fixed the issue. I point this out because if you compare this to some other wallets like Trust Wallet, it’s near impossible to get a timely response from them.

Rainbow is open source
Being open source is a significant factor that enhances the safety of Rainbow.

When a wallet is open source, it means that anyone can look at the underlying code. You can view Rainbow’s code base on Github here, if you want!

This transparency allows developers, security experts, and the wider community to examine the code, identify vulnerabilities, and suggest improvements. By having multiple sets of eyes reviewing the codebase, potential bugs, security loopholes, or malicious code can be quickly identified and addressed.

Being open source also promotes accountability and discourages hidden or proprietary backdoors—a secret way for someone to get inside software and access things they shouldn’t.

Rainbow is open source so you can feel confident about your choice in wallet, and secure in the belief Rainbow does not have any hidden features that could compromise your security or privacy.
